ZMT Sponsors Student Awards at Latsis Symposium 2016 ETH Zurich on Personalized Medicine

From 27-29th June 2016, the Latsis Symposium 2016 on Personalized Medicine was held at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. As part of the symposium, several young researchers were invited to take part in two poster sessions to present their research findings to a wide range of participants including scientists, engineers and clinicians. They were also given the opportunity to deliver 2-minute flash presentations, and competed for student best poster awards with a cash prize of either CHF 2000, 1000, and 500, sponsored by the ZMT Zurich Med Tech AG.

Three outstanding young investigators received the awards from ZMT CEO Lars Bomholt at the end of the scientific part of the symposium. The first prize went to Karl Frontzek of the Institute of Neuropathology (UHZ) for his poster entitled "Prevalence of human autoantibodies against the prion protein in unselected hospital patients and in PRNP mutation carriers". Norman Juchler from the Institute of Applied Simulation (ZHAW Wädenswil) finished second with his presentation "Shape-based assessment of intracranial aneurysm disease status – a machine learning approach". The third place went to Irina Alecu from the Institute of Clinical Chemistry (UHZ) for her work on "Elucidating novel metabolic pathways of the cytotoxic 1-deoxysphingolipids". We congratulate the three prize winners on this achievement!
